Students Adamantly Oppose Spending Lid
Thursday September 21, 2006
Lincoln, NE — Wednesday, September 20th the Association of Students
of the University of Nebraska Lincoln passed a resolution urging students
as well as all citizens of Nebraska to vote against initiative 423.
ASUN President, Matt Schaefer, stated, "The University of Nebraska
was established to provide quality and accessible education over
100 years ago under the Morrill Act. Initiative 423 would prevent the
University
from being able to effectively carry out that mission, and leave
students paying more for a substandard education."
The Resolution states funding for the University of Nebraska could
be considerably affected should the ballot initiative take effect and
students at the University of Nebraska would be severely affected by
increased tuition and/or program cuts.
"Education is one of the most important aspects in a person's life.
It is what expands their horizons, allows them to contribute to
society, and achieve success. With increased tuition and fees caused
by Initiative
423 obtaining an education would be nearly impossible for many
Nebraskans." said
ASUN Senator David Solheim.
Further announced is that on Monday September, 25th Students Against
the Lid (SAL), a recognized student organization, will be hosting a press
conference at 12:00 noon in the Nebraska Union Plaza.
The press conference will include an introduction of SAL, testimony
from student leaders about the effects of ballot initiative 423,
and ASUN has been invited to read aloud the resolution it passed
concerning the initiative. |
